One sustainability practise, tested at Omnia: Bio scale

  • Post category:News

At Omnia Kirkkokatu 16 campus a bio scale has taken into use in 2020. According to the service manager Tarja Hämäläinen and the kitchen leader Maarit Nikkanen, the bio scale is an excellent tool to measure the amount of waste food. According to the service manager Hämäläinen waste food from customers’ plates makes 19 % of all waste food that the kitchen produces.

The amount is significant, and the intention of the bio scale is to raise awareness among all customers about the amount, how much food each of them take in relation to how much they eat it. The bio scale measures the total amount of food, which is thrown away and tells on the attached screen, how many portions that amount equals to.

The bio scale is one part of Omnia’s sustainable development plan.
