TELL ME! What do you feel? Exploring bodily and implicit knowledge in arts & crafts
5, 6, 7 May 2026, Saint-Étienne (France)
The third edition of CIMAD investigates the role of tacit knowledge, gesture, embodied experience, and sensitive intelligence in contemporary craft practices. Bringing together researchers, artisans, designers, makers and cultural professionals, CIMAD 3 explores how the implicit dimension of craftsmanship shapes creation, transmission, and innovation today.
Three thematic axes structure the conference:
- Naming the implicit: the semiotics of gesture
- Creation without a body? AI, robotics & the limits of tacit knowledge
- Transmitting the invisible: tacit pedagogies
The conference also welcomes performances and artistic works, presented in a dedicated exhibition space during the event as well as a poster session.
Deadline for submissions: 28 February 2026
